Group meetings - Miss Geogiou

Group meetings
The purpose of group meetings are to make sure that everyone is on the same page and that ideas and thoughts are being shared. This communication allows a group to work better together because they help them relate with eachother and open up about any issues or chnages needed. They are essential to carry out because they make sure that all group members know what is going on with the production, it prevents any confusion and opens up the opinions within the group. The members are enabled to express their ideas and take on board others input making the production overall more likely to work better and run smoothly.
The group meeting helped me and my group when constucting out music video because it gave up alot of communication meaning there where no issues of lack of infoment to other members. We were able to openly talk about our ideas and plans for the production of the video, no one was left out and everything was able to run smoothly. The group meetings ment my group and I were able to sit down with eachother and plan out each element of out music video, we could disucss what we thought would look best and how we wanted everything to fit in. We were able to map out every detail and make sure they met everyones needs and everyone agreed.
I think a strength within our group meetings what that everyone was heard, all members were allowed to air their opinions and they were always taken on board. The group were easily able to talk about how we wanted our music video to be and this ment that we had a clear image of how we wanted it to look. From this my group and I were able to create our music video to the way we wanted it to look and what we imagined it to be like.

From carry out the group meetings I have learnt that it is very important to have the communication with a group of people having to work together and that without it the work doesnt run smoothly. Without the meeting there are many more issues and problem that occur because there hasnt been enough dicussion on the point which are important in the product. I think my group and I work well together throughout the creation of our music video, and we kept out communication open. We allowed eachother to say our opinions and we all took them onboard to come up with group decision that met the look everyone was goiong for.
If I were to have to do this again I would have had a few more meetings just to make sure that everything was perfect and any issues were covered. I would also make them more specific to certain elements which wold mean everything was covered on a wider basis.

Photoshoot - Miss Miller

Photoshoot
You need to take pictures when creating the product I am (magazine advert and digipak). Images are needed for these products because they make them more effective and show the audience the different  styles of the album and the personality and ideas of the artist. The pictures are essential because they stop the products from being boring and create a more exciting piece including connotaitons and conventions which appeal to the audience. It is also important to take a variety of image because some may not come out in the intended way or may not look as theyare wanted when it comes to creating the products. Having different pictures make sure there is a back up plan and they also show the different sides the music and the artist. Each image and represent the artist in a different was or show a different emoitons which then reflects on the sonfs within the album.

Before
Image 1-    I took the particular image because I thought it show the audience the representation of the artist very well. She is clearly visible to them and they can see every element of her hair, make-up and costume, as well as some other micro-elements like a long shot and lightings. I have chosen this image to be used in my digipak. It has been used as a message page, where the artist has written a note around her body to her audience. I chose this because I thought the red curtain provided a good blank space for the text   to be focused on therefore the audience would not be destracted by any other elements exept for the artist herself. The image is convetional because it show the classy artist representation. She is shown as a respectable woman in a black dress with nicley done make up and hair, this shows the audience that she repescts herself, which is a common representation in female soul artists. After I edited the image it was in blacka dn white which is also conventional because it show the old fashioned side the the music. Soul orginated in the 1950's and therefore the black and white theme relates to this ear where all videos and image where the same. These conventions make the digipak more effective because they allow the audience to make a deeper connection witht the musicvideo and the soul genre, they can get a better undertsnading of what the elements mean and also what they mean to the artist. I think this audience can build a relationship with the artist through this image because they can see a clear representation of her. The audience are able to see her as a respectable woman and they therefore follow this, they look up to her. They cna also see her hair, make-up nd cotumes which they make like and idolise, this make the build a realtionship with her as they may have the same style. The audience can reate her image to other pople in their lives and then go on to respect her as they would with the people in real life.

ADD AND AFTER IMAGE

Image 2 -    This image was taken because it shows the faical expressions of the artist and shows her audience how se if feeling. Not only down the image show this it also the black and white setting which is conventional. I used this image in my digipak, I kept the image the same with no text on it, just an effect to remove some of the colours.

Image 1 -
Main
  • Include 4 – 5 pictures that you have taken to use for both your magazine advert and digipak
  • Write a paragraph for each picture explaining:
  • Why you have taken a picture of this particular image?
  • Where you intend to use each picture (digipak? Advert?) – include pictures of before and after (actual digipak etc.)?
  • How is it conventional/subversive of your chosen genre?
  • What you think is good about it?
  • How you think they will help the audience build a relationship with your artist?

Conclusion
  • Explain how you found taking pictures for your photo shoot – what do you feel you did particularly well? What do you feel you struggled with?
  • Explain what representation these pictures give your artist overall
  • Explain how as a group you will create individual magazine album adverts and digipaks, and therefore needed to take a variety of photos for each other’s different ideas

Individual magazine advert - Miss Miller

Individual Magazine Advert
The purpose of having a magazine advert is to make the album known, it gives the product publicity and attracts more buyers. The advert follows conventions other elements which link to the digipak and the artists in order for the audience to see what the album is like and show the different representations for the music included. It promotes the album by creating different macro meanings for the audience and showing them the emotions behind the music and the artist, further making them want to listen and buy the product to find out how these representations are lived up to. The advert also promotes the music video which I have created because it shows the style of it, in the image my artist is performing, showing the audience that there is a performance scene within some of the music videos. The audience then want to watch the video not just listen to the much they want to shed how the artist can perform their music and what emotions they create.
For creating my magazine advert I used a software called Photoshop CS6. This software was chosen because it allows you work in layers, each element of the advert is a separate piece meaning everything is easily changed or moved. The layers make the process a lot quicker to edit, each piece of text can be moved to different places, made different colours and font, the images and be on top of one another and both can have different effects. Therefore all assets can be made individual whilst being able to fit in to everything else.
I came up with my advert idea by researching into other female soul artists and their previous advert for the albums. I then elaborated on these ideas when planning for my own advert. A lot of my ideas were from Adele's 21 album, I took most of my inspirations from her colour use and expanded on them to make them fit int my product and my artist better. When planning my advert I made the ideas I took from Adele's advert and elaborates on the emotions changes elements so that the would link in more with my music video and the artist. For example her stand out colour was lime green but I didn't like the emotions it created, so I decided on using an equally vibrant colour to create different emotions but attract the audience in the same way.

I decided to use certain elements in my magazine advert to appeal to my target audience and promote my artist effectiviley;

Colours -  For my magazine advert I have used a black and white effect over the image. I believe the basic colours shows the two most conventional emotions when it comes to soul music, the black connotes sadness and mystery and the white connotes happiness and hope. The dark greys and black represent the more depressive songs which show the sad side to the artist and the negative effect the songs messages have on her. Whilst the whites and light greys represent the positive songs which shows the artist with a brighter and happier persona. The two colours help to promote the artist because they inform the audience of her emotions within the album they are enable to build a relationship with the artist throughout the common feelings, this promotes her because see is seen as relatable. I also used pastel purple for the text. This colour show another side the artist and the album by representing a more classy image, purple connotes luxury. Therefore the colour shows the audience the professionalism of the album and how it is a serious piece of work that means a lot to the artist. Whilst also giving it a little touch to make it look appealing and interesting to the audience. This colour also promote the artist because it show the audience her professional side and how much her work and music means to her rather than it just being a hobby, it shows them that she takes pride in it and wants it to be the best it can be. The relation the colours give to the audience also promotes the artist because the more able to connect with her and know that they will enjoy the songs on the album, so if the audience can immeaditaly relate to the colours through the advert they are more likely to buy the album bcause they are attratced to the artist.

Conventions of genre - One genre convention in my magazine album advert is the black and white effect on the image. It is conventional to the soul genre because it is often to used to portray a classical look, this is because soul music has been around since the 1950's. Everything back in the 50's was in black and white there was no colour in pictures or videos, so having this effect takes the audience back to where to music originated from. It keeps the audience aware of when soul was created and makes them feel as though they are connected to the roots of the music genre.
Another conventional element I have used in my magazine advert is the font of the writing. I have chosen two different types of font one that looks classical, it is curly and the end of the letters swirl off and the other has straight letters and is in bold. The first font is conventional because it looks pretty, most soul adverts or album cover use font which looks attractive because it make the overall product and the artist seem elegant and fashionable. The other straight font represents the boldness of the artist which is often how female soul artists are represented because they are stereotypically strong independent women.
Both these elements make the advert appeal to the audience because they make it look nice, they are easy on the eye and appeal because of the attractiveness. The black and white edit gives a unique look and therefore intrigues the audience whilst the two different fonts support the female artists image. The two elements discussed above show the audience the visually attractive side to the album and the artist which appeals to them because they can idolise it. They also promote the artist as they both give a hint about her music and her emotions, the black and white allow the audience to see the negatives and positives in her her life, allowing them to relate to her and feel a connection with he product. Whilst the font show her feminine side, her personality amd her strength, also allowing them to relate to her and they can also relate the attractive font to her image and begin to idolise her.
Another convention in my magazine advert is theiconography in the image. The artist is seen singing into a microphone, the is conventional because of the realtion it has to the soul genre. Often soul songs cotain a performance seen, so havung this in an image shows how the artist follow the conventions by performing her music. It also portrays her as passionate about her work because she wants to perform it not just let the audience listern to a pre-recorded piece

Image -  In my magazine advert there is only one image which is a close up of the artist, this image is placed behind all the other elements on the advert and fills the whole page. As the images is a close up to shows the audience the facial expressions of the artist and her singing into the microphone. She is looking straight and has barley any emotions showing, the fact that her face is blank may infer her mixed emotions as she is unsure of what to show or how to feel at that point. Having mixed emotions links to the black and white edit which is used, it shows the audience the different emotions for the songs within the album and how the messages and feelings of each may vary, some positive and some negative. The image appeals to the audience because of the relationship it enables them to build a relationship with the artist, they are given a the chance to connect with her through her emotions, being able to take them into account and relate them back to their own lives and experiences, meaning they can understand what she is feeling. This therefore making them want to buy the album as they will feel as though they can understand the music within it and will gain a deeper relationship with the artist. The image promotes the artist as it makes the audience feel a connect with her and they therefore feel close with her and the music.

Layout/design - The layout for my magazine advert is very simple and plain. The image of my artist takes up the whole page and the text is placed over it but to the right. The artist name Cara-Lily is on the right centre of the screen and the album name, Your Girl, is just above. This layout is simple and easy to understand, the audience can get all the information they need without being over powered by other things on the advert. Having the text to the side of the image makes both elements clear to the audience and easier to see and understand. The layout if appealing for the audience to understand because they able to see everything they need to clearly, they can see the artist and her emotion, her name and the album title which is all they need to see. From this they can decided if they will enjoy the music and go on to buy the album. The layout also promotes the artist because the audience are able to see the big image of her, meaning they can see her mixed emotions and relate to her. This is a promotional asset because they can build a relationship with her and will want to buy the product in order to gain a deeper understanding of her messages.

Typography - One of the typography's for the advert looks very feminine, the font is very curly and looks signature like, showing the gentle, pretty side to the advert, artist and the music. Some of the text is white whislt the rest is a pastel purple colour which was chosen because it makes it stand out from the rest of the advert, the audience eyes are immediately drawn to it and therefore read the information they need to in order to buy the album or see if they will enjoy it. The purple also connotes the respectability of the advert and how it is a piece of work and a piece of art, it shows the audience that the artist is serious about her music and it means a lot to her. The of tyography is a staright fotn which is plain and bold. This fotn show the stronger independent side the artist and show how she is a bold person whom doesnt follow others. The different elements of the typography appeals to the audience because it shows them the elegance of the advert and boldness of the artist. It also shows that it isn't just about the music but it actually means something to the artist. Not only do the audience find it visually appealing, they also build a relationship with the artist through learning her style, they can see what she likes things to looks like and taste. This goes onto promote the artist because the audience are enable to build this relationship with her and may like her idea of how to make things look nice, they make look up to this and idolise her for it.

Language - The language for my magazine album advert is formal. There is not a lot of text within my advert but what there is of it is formal, there is no slang used just the name of the artist, the album and a list of songs included. This shows the audience that the product it respectable, it is not just music and that the artist depends on it. It shows good selling and promotional skills for other products relating the album and the artist. This appeal to the audience because they are shown that the album is a serious piece of work and should live up to the expectations. It also promote the artist because the language reflects her, she is represented as respectable therefore the audience will want to see her work and will want to build a relationship.

Connotations - As said before there are connotations of the colours in my magazine advert. The black and white edit over the image represents the contrast in emotions for the album. The white shows the happy, hopeful images, whilst the black shows the depressive feelings of some songs. The purple text connotes the more classy image, as is represents luxury. Not only do the colours give macro meanings but so does the facial expressions of the artist. Her blank face infers her mixed emotions as she is unsure of what to shows or who to feel at that point. Having mixed emotions links to the black and white edit which is used, it shows the audience the different emotions for the songs within the album and how the messages and feelings of each may vary, some positive and some negative. Another connotion within my advert is the femine font used for some of the text, it is made to look signiture like, possibly showing that the artist had a lot to do with the creation of the piece. The audience can see that anytime her name is mentioned it is in this curly font, hinting that the artist was very involoved with the creation of the album and advert and it therefore realte to her. All these connotations appeal to the audience because they provider macro meanings and therefore they can understand the product better and the artist, the can build a relationship with her and connect with the messages of the songs. They also promote the artist because the audience are given a better insight into what the artist feel about the music and her she take pride in her work, the are allowed to build built a relationship with her and idolise her.

Photoshop - When using photoshop I was faced with a couple issues. The biggest issue if had was with the black and white effect over the image also effetcing the text which isnt not what i wanted. Once I put the effect on the image I then added text, which included white and purple. Further through the creation I realised that the purple fron the font had gone and that the black and white effect had also been placed onto the writing. The problem was easily resolved when i simpy move the text layer so that it was above the effectes. The font them went back to the colours I originally had and it didnt happen again.
The other problem which occued when creating my magazine advert was making the image fit the page without being over stretched or misshaped. When placed my image on to page I dragged it out so that it was the size I wanted it to be, but it enlongate the artist and made her look off shape. I tried again but the same thing happened, so I asked my teacher and he told me to hold down 'shift' and then dra it out. This ment that the top and side lines stayed in the right place they just zoomed in, this ment that the image didnt change shape it just simply expanded and didnt become disfigured.

I also had some strengths when it came to using photoshop for my magazine advert was the magic eraser tool, this ment that I could take out any backgrounds from images that were unnecessary or didnt fit well witht he other elements. I found this easy to use because I have used it alot before when creating other project, for example a film poster. I used this tool on the stars in my advert, as they had a white background and therefore left a white box onto of my main image. This didnt look professional so I took out the white and just left the four stars on there own, this ment they blended into the rest of the advert better.  As this made the advert look more professional it was therfore more successful because of the high quality the audience are attratced to it and go on to learn more about the music and the artist.
Another strength of mine on photoshop is the colour copy and paint brush tool along with the blur tool. I had to use these three techniques together a one point in the advert creeation, this is because they was a white mark on my image from the way that the picture was taken. To get rid of ths i knew that I could use the colour copy tool and take orginal colour just above the white spot, I then chose the paint brush tool and went over the white patch with the copied grey. This got rid of the mark and made the image better quality. But the paint brush left a few lines around the patch, i knew that i could get rid of these by using the blurring tool to smudge out the lines, this made all the colours blend together and white mark was no longer visable. I think these tools are a strengths of mine because I was able to work very quickly with them and I knew what to do. I was able to make the image for my advert look professional and flawless, which goes onto make it more successful because they audience see it as respectable piece of work.

Inspirations - I gained many inspiration from my resarch into music videos and soul artist and genres. One of the main idea i took from my research was from Adeles 21 album advert which I analysed. She used black and white for her image whcih i have also used. I thought this would be a good element to have because it is conventional and shows connotaitons of the songs included. Iwanted to used this in my product because I thought it was very effective on Adeles piece and i wanted to have the same effect for my work. The contrasting emotions of happy and sad are how i want my artists album to be shown. She also used one brighter colour for the text, which was a lime green. I wanted to do the same with my product as I thought it made it look overall more professional it gave it a hint of excitement rather than just having the black and white. So I decided to follow this but instead on the lime gren I used  a pastel purple. It had the effected I wanted and made my advert look professional and gave it an element of excitment.
I also used an inspiration from the reserach I did into chosen artist, Amy Winehouse. In the video in analysed for Back To Black, throughout the video Amy has very serious facial expressions, she has a constant black face which does show happiness or sadness it is just plain. I think this is effective because the audience can see that the artist is experienceing all differnt emoitons ans that her songs are of all different meanings that she can not show them all in one facial expression. I used this look for my main image of the artist in my advert. I have chosen and image which showsmy artist with a blank face it show my audienc that sh edoesnt have one specific emoitns but many, it allows them to see that she is experiencing a lot and that they at some point in the album will be able to relate to her.

Adaption - There are some element of my advert which do not completely follwo the plan I made but most ideas have just been adapted into something more fitting or more effective. For exmple in my plan I spoke about having one font for the whole advert, which was a feminie curly font. This idea was still used but the text wasnt all in this font. I found that when i was creating the advert is was boring to have all the writing in one font, so I thought I would have two. I chose a contrastingfront which was plain straight and bold. This made the advetr stand out more and the audience were more able to tell the difference between the imporant infomation e.g. the artists name and the ablum from the other text which wasnt essential to them.
Another change I made from my plan was that I was think about having the text in the centre of the page but because of the image i chose it fitted better to the right side of the page. Hvaing the artist on the left side ment that changning the text to the right rather than the middle made it more visable and clear to the audience. I think it made the advert look more professional and the elements fitted in beter when they werent all over lapping. The more spaced out layout fitted better and made the product more effective as the audience could see the infomaiton they need and could also read the meotions of the artist.

Conclusion
I think my advert matches with the conventions of the soul genre because each element was created to relate with soul themes. The black and white effect was specifically chosen because it link back to the orignal ea of soul music, whilst the image of the artist shows the convention mixed emotions of soul music and shows the audience that soul artist use a variety of emotions to allow their audience to relate to them. I think the elemtns in more magazine album advert following the conventions well and make the product more appeling.
I think it appeals to the audience because everything is clear and reatable. Each element has a different way of connecting with the audience and enabling them to build a realtionshio with the artist. This draws them in because they want to find out more about the songs and the artist, they are given hints about the music but arent shown the full extent of it meaning they are intrigued to find out more.
I think the creation of my magazone advert will help with the promotion of the artist and the album because hte audience are given an insight of what they might gai from buying the album. They are given tasters for the music and can see wether they wll enjoy the emtions it provides or not. The different elements promte the artist and album in different ways and intrigue the audience be doing so. I think this all promotes the album and artist because they are shown and professional and worth the money.

Risk assessment - Miss Georgiou

Risk Assessment
The purpose of a risk assessment it to iron out any issues when it comes to filming a product. It shows the cast and crew the risk of the filming and how it can be prevent, it allows the crew to take the necessary precautions before filming starts to ensure that the issues won't occur. The risk assessments overall outcome is that it prevents problems from occurring by figuring out what they could be and how they can resolved. There is also a back plan incase the precautions don't work and something does occur that could endanger someones safety or equipment to be damaged. This is why it is important to consider the risks before filming, a risk can still occur even when the solution has taken place this is why a back up plan is often on standby. The back up plan provides extra insurance so that the filming, the cast and  the crew are less likely to be affected by an incident occurring.

When it came to filming my group and I followed our risk assessment and took all the necessary precautions in order to prevent the risk occurring. We didn't have any un expected risk whilst filming our music video but we didn't hit an issue. We had to result in a back up plan the the first solution failed. The happened with the risk of loose wires, possibly tripping someone up one cast member notice the tape which help the wire to the ground had become loose at which point my group and I had to turn to the back up plan of putting high-vis tap over the original tape to that everyone was able to see that there was a hazard. From this everyone could see that there was an issue and would walk over the wires prevent them to become loose again and high risk. We had to do this because otherwise a crew or cast member could have been injured if they tripped or fell on the wires and the equipment could have been pulled over if sone caught on them, meaning it could have been damaged or completely broken.
Apart from the one issue discussed no other risks became a treat and no other back up plan had be used. The black plan for the wire on the ground being a tripping hazard prevent any injuries or damage to equipment and worked in the way it was men to.
I have learnt that the role of a risk assessment is very important during filming because it insures that there are not going to many major issues which could jeopardise shooting. The risk assessment meant that even if one of the risks occurred, we knew how to resolve it and if the first idea didn't work we had a back up plan, making the my group and I more prepared for the problems we were likely to face.

Filming schedule - Miss miller

 Filming schedule
It is important to use a filming schedule when shooting for a video product. The filming schedule keep everything in check and flowing properly. It tells the crew what needs to be in which shots, when and where they are being filmed, this means that they can get it all organised before filming starts in order for the process to run smoothy. It is important to use a filming schedule because it means that the cast and crew all know what they are doing and there won't be any mistakes or confusing in the shooting.
When my group and I began filming we stuck to most of our filming schedule. We followed all the different elements in the shots, the camera angles, hair and make-up and the crew needed. Most things were kept the same and followed properly which worked well, everything flowed and were only faced with a few issues. One of the problems we battled was the weather, our walk of shame and date scene are both based outside to the weather proved an issue. We planned to film both these scenes on the 29th of October but when it came to do day of filming it was raining, foggy and dull outside. This was an issue for our scene because we wanted a more brighter image and the rain meant we could take the equipment outside as we didn't have the correct covers to protect it from water damage. Because of this we had to check the wether for the next week and chose another date to film the two scenes we chose to try again on the 4th of November, the wether site showed that there was no rain or fog due for that day. When it came to trying to re-film the weather was just as we wanted it the was no treat of rain or dullness. Because of this issue we did have to change to film schedule but just the dates, no other information had to be changed on this day.

We did face another timing issue where we could film on the day we wanted to. Our stage performance scene is set on a stage and we decided to use the school hall to film this. At first my group and I thought we could film on the 2nd of November but we later found out that the hall was already booked by another class. So we changed the date to the 5th of November and doubled checked that it was free for us the have the time we needed. This happened before is came to filming so we were able to change the filming schedule before anything had been done or needed to be done.

We also had to plan another date to re-film the party scene because the first time around didn't look good, the quality was low and it would make the whole video look bad. So because of this we chose friday the 6th of November so that we had the shoe evening to set up the location and make sure the lighting was correct before we started. It also meant that the were no restrictions on when we had to be done or had to leave to location. We were able to film a better looking scene which matched our original ideas and would fit in to the video more effectively.

One last problem which we were faced with was forgetting and outfit, the filming schedule had mistake and we brought with us an outfit for a different scene. We needed the party outfit but instead we brought the stage performance dress, luckily the group and I were able to get hold of the other outfit and weren't set back to much. Once we got the correct outfit the rest of the film ing ran smoothly and we were only 10 to 15 minutes behind the filming schedule.

They were all the changed made to the filming schedule for my music video, nothing major occurred that treated the filming massively, not problems which were easily solved  and nothing dramatic had to be re done.It helped me and my group to keep in check and keep on time with out filming. We were able to get everything done in time for editing and we found it very useful when we needed to know what was in each shot. There weren't many confusions or mistake in the filming except the three issue explained above.
I have learnt that the role of a filming schedule is important to keep the productions running smoothly. It kept my group and I on time for everything and made sure we had what we needed for what shoots. Even when we were faced with the issues explained above the filming schedule meant that it didn't effect the rest of the scenes and they were easily overcome and rescheduled. Overall it helped a lot throughout filming and kept all cast and crew organised.

Planning Digipak - Miss Miller

Planning Digipak

A digipak is important for the sales of an album, they make it more interesting for the audience and provided them with a more in depth product. A digipak typically consists of a paper board or cardboard outer binding, with one ore more plastic trays for the CD, the packaging is often used for the CD single or special additions of the album. A jewel CD is the original compact disc case, it is a three piece plastic case, usually containing a CD and sometimes lyrics of song. The digipak is an overall better product because it contain high quality images, a letter from the artist, bonus tracks, 6 sides and all information is accessible. The didgpak is more effective had contain for element which can have a effect on the audience, they are enabled to see more connotations or appealing assets. They are given a bigger chance to build a relationship with the audience, especially throughout the not often within the digipak, it gives them a personal connection. This makes them want to buy the digipak rather the the jewel CD because they will gain more from it, it is more appealing and the will be able to build a deeper relationship with the artist and there music.
I will be creating my own digipak for my music video 'in my bed" by Cara-lily. My digipak will include all the normal elements, images, a not, a list of a few songs and the CD. To create this product the planning is important because it allows me to map out what element I want where and what i want be included in it. The panning will enable me to make the product look it best for it is even made, i will be able to include conventions, connotations and effect assets which appeal tot he audience. It will make it more effective as I will be able to figure out how the layout, colours, typography, images, conventions and language will reach the audience and the effective i want each part to have.

Colours
There isn't going to be two much colour in my Digipak, the images are mostly doing to be black and white, but the text and some part of the picture are going to be in full colour, focusing in the purple and emphasising them shades. I have decided to make the images black and white. I believe the two basic colours shows the two most conventional emotions when it comes to soul music, the black connotes sadness and mystery and the white connotes happiness and hope. The dark greys and black represent the more depressive songs which show the sad side to the artist and the negative effect the songs messages have on her, whilst the whites and light greys represent the positive songs which shows the artist with a brighter and happier persona. The two colours help to promote the artist because they inform the audience of her emotions within the album they are enable to build a relationship with the artist throughout the common feelings, this promotes her because see is seen as relatable. One of my images is going to be half black and white whilst the other half is going to be in colour but colour grading is going to be used to bring out the purples with it, the text through the digipak is also going to be a pastel purple. I have chosen to do that and use the purl because i believe it represents luxury, purple is shown to be a classy and superior. The colour represents the digipak and a high class, respectable product making the audience what to buy it because they can see that it a professional piece and the artist takes pride in it. These colours appeal to the audience because the show macro meaning for the album and the artist stye allow the audience to understand the background of the product and how the artist wants them to feel about it. They can also see how much pride the artist takes in her her work which is appeal for them because the look up to her and idolise her. The colours don't really differ from a jewel CD case because both products are aloud to have any colours they want, here are no restriction. But in the digipak the colours are clearly used more because the product is large, meaning it can have more of an effect on the audience.

Genre conventions
In my digipak I have used many different genre conventions to make my product more relatable. An example of a soul convention I used is the images of the artist which are mostly in black and white, the images having this edit make them conventional because they become emote unique. The black and white makes the digipak look different and quirky, it doesn't follow other music genres with bold and vibrant colours. Soul music artists normally go for a unique look because the audience look up to this, they are attracted to it and can idolise the artists independence. This convention appeals to my target audience because it represents the artist as independent, they can see that she does what she likes and she has her own style, they then look up to the because she is shown to be who she wants to be. The character representations also promotes the artist as she is viewed a a strong woman, many audience members will find this inspiring.
Another convention used in my digipak is a piece of iconography, in one of my images the artist is singing on stage whilst holding a classical microphone and the stand. This is conventional because the microphone shows the older fashioned style of the artist. The piece of iconography is mainly seen in older videos and is not something used in modern day, popular music videos. Therefore showing the audience that she does wan tot be a stereotypical music artist, she wants to stick to the roots of music and want to be different from everyone else. This is conventional because soul music has been around for many years and nearly always sticks to the style of classy and upbeat, the microphone matches this look and shows the audience the classical side to the music. Also because it represents the art its as unique shows another convention as soul artist are often independent when it comes to styes and fashion, they don't follow normally music artist they do what they want and what expresses themselves the most. This convention appeals to my target audience because of how it represents soul and the artist, the genre is shown as strong because it is still popular even thought it came out in the 1950's. The unique look of the artist also appeal to the audience because they loo up to her image and her independence, they idolise her for not following typical fashion.
The jewel CD also uses conventions but cannot contain as much because of the size of the product it will be harder to fit in a lot of conventions as well as all the other elements needed. The digipak has more space to work with and therefore can use a lot of conventions to attract the their audience even more. A jewel CD doesn't lack genre conventions it just connote present them as well as a digipak can.

Images
I have four different images in my digipak, each one is slightly different and portray different messages of the album and the artist. On image is a close up of the artist looking slightly down to the ground she has blank facial expression and doesn't appeal to be coin anything specific. I chose this image because I believe it shows her mixed emotions and that she does know how to feel. This then goes on to show the audience the different emotions within the album, having the artist confused of her feelings gives a macro meaning  that there may be different emotions and messages within the songs. This appeal to the audience because they can see from the image what they may experience when listening to the music, they can the go on to decide if they will enjoy it, or if it is what they want to buy. It also appeals to them because they are able to see understand how the artist is feeling and what the songs mean to her, they can relate to her by matching her feelings with there own or times that they may have felt the same. This goes on to promote the artist because she is easily relatable, her facial expressions enables the audience to understand the image. Having a relatable artist make the audience what the buy the album because they will see that they may benefit from the music.
Another image I used in my digipak is of the artist in a performance scene, she is on a small stage singing into an old fashioned micro phone, there are blood red curtains behind her and the floor it black. This mages show the audience the career side the artist and how music is her job, they can understand that she enjoys performing to an audience not just allowing them to listen through a CD or radio. The image shows her enjoyment of the music and also her classical image. The artist image is conventional in the shot because she is wearing a classy dress and her make is nice but subtle. This image shows the classical soul music genre and the roots of there era it comes from. This appeal to the target audience enjoy seeing her image and how she enjoys her music, if she were to look bored she performing the audience would be turned off, they wouldn't think the songs are going to be good, instead they would see the album as bad. As the audience are aware of the artist liking the music they believe they will like it as well because they are abel to see someone else enjoying it. This also promote the artist because she is represented as proud it it clear that she it happy when singing her music and that it means a lot to her. Therefore the audience are more interested to find out about her music and what she has created, this promotes her because she gives a positive feel for the digipak.
Jewel CD cases can not contain as many image because they do not have the space, the more images the more effective the product is. Therefore the jewel CD case is restrict with ways in which it can attract its audience. A digipak is over all more effective when i comes to images because it can contain more.

Layout/Design
I decided to use the layout planned in the below picture as is believe it makes the product more effective and easy to understand. The layout for my digipak is simple, I plan to make it as plain as possible without making it look boring. There will be six different elements; two images, a CD, message from the artist, front cover and the back cover with a list of song included on the album. The simple layout will represent the calmness and simplisity of the music with in the album, it will show the audience the personality of the artist and her emotions. This appeals to the audience to because they can understand the artist by relating to the simple lyout, they can see tat she isnt about the stereotypical celeb image and that she like to be independent. This doesnt just appeal to the audience but it also promotes the artist because of how it enbales them to relate to her she becomes an idol, they look up to how she doen't follow trends and her independence. These diferent effects male the audience want to buy the album to find out more abot her and her emoitons htrought the sogns included. A jewel CD layout only consistes of one page n the front and one on the back, this shows how they can not have as much of an effect with the little amout they have to work with.  Digipaks have more space to work on and can fit in more elments to intrigue the audience making them more effective and more likley to attract the target audience, meaning more buys.

Typography
For my typography I have planned to have a differnet range of sizes but all the same font. The size range will variey when it comes to the most to important text, which will be large and the less important text being small. This will make sure that the audience focus of the most important parts of the of the digipak and the necessary information will stick in there minds. The text will be, soft, curly and have a hand written look to it, this is to make it look like the artist has created it herself. The hand written stlye font appeals to the audience because it make the digipak more meaningful, the audience believe that that artist has a close part in the create of the product and therefore they can relate it back to her persoanlity an the music. The soft, relaxed fotn represetns the artist herself and the music within the album. I think the typography appeals to the audience because it not only highlights the important infomation but also allows them to relate to the artist and gain an insight of the  music in the album. The digipak also promote the artist because they audienc ecan see from the font that she is layed back and isnt and overly viberant person. Compared to a jewel CD case the digipak allows alot more typograpy and therefore the macro meanings become clearer making the product further effective and appeals to their target audeinces more.

Language
The language in my digipak plan is fairly formal, there is no slang used. But because there is no slang use doesnt mean that the product is completley formal because they message from the artist doesnt show a wide range of vacabualry id is basic and get straight the point. This also doesn't mean that it is informal because there is still a good use of sentencing. I would say that the language planned is formal because it is well written and although it is used to connect with the audience it doesnt do so buy speak the way in which they might. This appeals to the audience because they feel as though they are being reached and that the artist is trying to make a personal relationhip with them. They can see that the artist is grateful for the purchase and that she is just noraml person behind the fame who can be relatable. This therefore promote the artist because she because relatabel for the audience and they respect her and look up to her. They can also build a relationship with her because of the 'normal' representation she gives herself, they feel like they are part of the product and have helped with its success.

Connotations
The different colours used show a feel different connotations for example the blacka nd which she the contrast in the songs emotions in the album, white representing the upbest, hopeful  and the dark greys and blacks representing the depressive, unhappy emoitions. This shows the audience the variety of emotions in the album. The purple text connotes the luxury side of the product and how it is a respectable peive of work whcih is work the money.
The image I have chosen to use on the CD has a connotation. The image is of my artist sitting at the base of a tree and half the image is im full colours whilst the other half is dulled down almost to just balck and white. This also shws the constrats the emotions of the songs and the artist has two different side to her. As the image is put into two different parts the audeince are shown the two personalities of the artist. The black and white shows the depressive emotion and the side which is closed of to the audience, how she may feel behind closed doors, whilst the colourful side shows the happy side to her life and how she has postives which make up cheeful.
In the jewel CD case there isnt not much room for connotations, I am not saying there is not going to be any but it can not include as much as a digipak meaning less macro meanings and insights into the album. Digipaks are enabled to use alot of connotations allowing there audience to understand it better and relate to the artist with deeper meaning.

Planning my digipak before creating it was very helpful. The plan allowed me to easily take the pictures needed for the product and gave me an idea of what editing I would need to use. The sketches on the digipak plan enabled me to go out and take the effective images I wanted, I knew exactly what I needed to do and what I needed to catch within the pictures. I felt as though I was aware of the images I needed to take because I knew what would look good and be most effective due the the image I drew myself.I also meant I knew that I need to use photoshop. For my digipak I have chosen use a black and white edit which will have to be done on photoshop and I wanted to take a few colours from the real image and bring them back in to them back to product so that most was black and white but some elements were in colour. Knowing this meant that I prepared to create the digipak and could practice on how to do it before creating the real thing.

Storyboards Miss Georgiou

Storyboards
The purpose of a storyboard is to give a guide which shows the shots needed to be filmed. The storyboards allow the production team to see how well the planned shots and other element will work once put together, it allows them to see if any shots dont fit in well or even add other shots where needed. The storyboards allow the team to place all of the planned elements togeher so that when it comes to filming it wll run smoother and with be finished quicker because everthing will be in place. Eahc frame explain the loctaion, camera shot, iconpgraphy, editing, actors and includes a narrative description, having all this infomation easily accessed means that each shot can follow the intended look.
When carrying oout the research for my music video both types were used primary and secondary. The primary research carried out was a questionnaire and vox pops. These primary techniques helped me when it came to creating my own music video because they allowed me too gain a personal understand of what my target audience may want ot se or expect to see in my soul music video. The questionnaire allowed me to see whta my target audience want and what would be most effective to use in my music video, for example, the audience answer that they expect to see unique setting in a soul music video. Due to this result i thought it ould be effective to use a different setting which isnt popular in other music videos and it would make them ost intrigued into the video. The secondary research carried out was mostly just looking into the different aspects of a music video, the different theories, genres, artists, styles and the conventions. I looked into these elements by using the internent to find out infomation and watching other music videos. By looking into these things ment that I could understand how these different elemetns could create and effective and emotional music video. It helped me decide what I wanted in my own product. For example, my research into the style of a music video and Goodwins theory made me realise that I wanted to include a narrative and peformance style to my work, this is because I believed that it would work with my song, Amy Winehouse 'in my bed'. The narrative worked well because it could show the story to the song, meaning the audience could relate the musc and the artist thought her messages.

My group and I created our storyboard by putting of all our planning onto the paper which had different frames and boxes of the informations needed to describe to the shot. Th images below show the layout of the storyboard and how we wrote the elements needed for each shot. We put editing, camera shot, actors, sound, iconography, lighting, duration and a narrative description on the pages to show in as much detail as possible, how each shot should look and flow. We created our storyboard by spending a few lesson sitting and analysing the lyrics and discussing what scene we want to go where. From this we then went on to decided on what shot we would use within each scene and what other elements or assets would need to be in each shot. We carried on planning out each shot until we reached the end of the song and managed to get the timing right.

The group and I shared the responsibility by choosing a different member to cover different as of the storyboarding process. As a group we all discussed and wrote down the written work together so that we were able to plan how we wanted each shot to look and what should be included. After we finished the information section of the shots Emma then sketched out the shots in the boxes above the text, we decided emma would be best to do this part as she is good at drawing and was able to give a clearer picture for the frames. We also had to get the filming schedule down around the same time, so as Emma and Cara start on that I continued with the last shots of the storyboards so that we could get it all done, whilst we all did our jobs we continued to discuss each element so that everything was agreed on as a group. We shared the responsibilities well and managed to make sure all group members had a say to what went into it.

When it came to filming we did mostly stick to our storyboards, but there were a few changes. Some camera angles didn't look there best or look how the group and I imagined. For example we firstly decided on an panning shot as the artist was walking past the river in the walk of shame scene, but when i came to filming it we didn't think created the look we wanted. So we changed it to a tracking shot so that the camera followed the artist as she walked along, this worked better and gave us the image we wanted. The tracking meant the audience could be closer to the artist and they didn't get distanced from her, we wanted them to be able to see her clearly for the whole shot instead of her getting further away which happened in the panning shot. there was also an issue with on of the angle we first decided to use which was a low angle. This shot was looking up at the artist and her friend whilst at the house party, but it didn't create the emotions we wanted it to, instead it made them seem powerful which was not effective or relevant. The group and I decided a high angle would dower better as it would show her instability more, so we changed it and the shot  came together a lot better. Both these changes meant that we could follow what was originally planned for the two shots, but in the end they looked better then they would have if we followed the storyboard. The changes made the shot effective and made the video flow smoothly. Even thought not all the storyboard frames were followed it was still extremely useful to have it allowed my group and I to visualise how we wanted the video to look before we even started filming, therefore making it easier to actually create. The storyboards gave us a guide to follow and t was mostly stuck to and even when changes were made it was no of the content in the shot but the camera shot itself.

Planning magazine advert - Miss miller

Planning magazine advert

Magazine adverts are important in relation to promoting an artists album as they show the product to the audience, they show the audience the information needed if they want to buy the album. These advert help to promote and album because of the effect they have on the audience,  the different elements are used to intrigue the audience and conventions are used to show them what they will enjoy about the product. These effect elements and conventions allow the audience to see what the further meanings of the album are and the possible emotions involved in the songs.
I will be creating one of these magazine adverts for my artists album to promote the artist and her product. When creating this planning is important in order to make it as effective as possible and draw in a large audience. The planning will help me to decide on what elements have the most potential to intrigue the argot audience and provide macro meanings. It will help to provide the audience with a relatable advert that they can understand and there will be a better chance of them build a relationship with the artist based upon what the emotions of the advert connotes.

Colours
For my magazine advert I have decided to make the image black and white. I also want to use a bright colour for the text, pastel purple. These colours show another side the artist and the album by representing a more classy image, purple connotes luxury. Therefore the colour shows the audience the professionalism of the album and how it is a serious piece of work that means a lot to the artist. Whilst also giving it a little touch to make it look appealing and interesting to the audience. This colour also promote the artist because it show the audience her profession side and how much her work and music means to her rather tun it just being a hobby, it shows them that she takes pride in it and wants it to be the best it can be.

Conventions of genre
One genre convention in my magazine album advert is the black and white effect on the image, explained before.  It is conventional to the soul genre because it is often to used to portray a classical look, this is because soul music has been around since the 1950's. Everything back in the 50's was in black and white the was no colour in images or videos, so having this effect take the audience back to where to music originated from. It keeps the audience aware of when soul was created and makes them feel as though they are connected to the roots of the music genre. Another conventional element I have decided to use in my magazine advert is font of writing. I have chosen a font that looks classical, it is curly and the end of the letters swirl off. It is conventional because it looks pretty, most soul adverts or album cover use font which looks attractive because it make the overall product and the artist seem elegant and fashionable.
Both these elements make the advert appeal to the audience because they make it look nice, they are easy on the eye and appeal because of the attractiveness. The black and white edit gives a unique look and therefore intrigues the audience whilst the font is very feminine and supports the female artists image. Whilst the font show her feminine side and her personality also allowing them to relate to her and they can also relate the attractive font to her image and begin to idolise her.

Images
In my magazine advert there is only one image which is a close up of the artist, this image is placed behind all the other elements on the advert and fills the whole page. As the images is a close up to shows the audience the facial expressions of the artist. She is looking straight and has barley any emotions showing, the fact that her face is blank may infer her mixed emotions as she is unsure of what to shows or who to feel at that point. Having mixed emotions links to the black and white edit which is used, it shows the audience the different emotions for the songs within the album and how the messages and feelings of each may vary, some positive and some negative. The image appeals to the audience because of the relationship it enables them to build with the artist, they are given a the chance to connect with her through her emotions, being able to take them into account and relate them back to their own lives and experiences meaning they can understand what she is feeling. This therefore making them want to buy the album as they will feel as though they can understand the music within it and will gain a deeper relationship with the artist. The image promotes the artist as it makes the audience feel a connect with her and they therefore feel close with her and the music.

Layout/design
The layout for my magazine advert is very simple and plain. The image of my artist takes up the whole page and the text is placed over it. The artist name Cara-Lily is in the centre of the screen and the album name, Your Girl, it just below. This layout is simple and easy to understand, the audience can get all the information they need with being over powered by other things on the advert. The layout if appealing for the audience to understand because they able to see everything the need clearly, they can see the artist and her emotion, her name and the title of the album which is all they need to see, from this they can decided if they will enjoy the music and go on to buy the album. The layout also promotes the artist because the audience are able to see the big image of her, meaning they can see her emotions and relate to her. This is a promotional asset because they can build a relationship with her and will want to buy the product in order to gain a deeper understanding of her messages.

Typography
The typography for the advert looks very feminine, the font is very curly and looks signature like, showing the gentle, pretty side to the advert, artist and the music. The text will be a pastel purple colour which was chosen because it makes it stand out form the rest of the advert, the audience eyes are immediately drawn to it and therefore read the information  they need to in order to buy the album or see if they will enjoy it. The purple also connotes the respectability of the advert and how it is a piece of work not just and an art, it shows the audience that the artist is serious about her music and it means a lot to her. The different elements to the typography appeal to the audience because it show them the elegance of t6he advert and that it isn't just about the music but it actually means something to the artist.

Language
The language for my magazine album advert is formal. There is not a lot of text within my advert but what there is of it is formal, there is no slang used just the name of the artist, the album, a few songs and a sentence on the release of the product and how to buy it. The sentence states "Out now, to buy go to amazon the digipak go to amazon", this sentence uses all formal words and does not have any informal language.

Connotations
As said before there are connotations of the colours in my magazine advert.

Planning my magazine advert before creating it was very helpful. The plan allowed me to easily take the picture needed for the advert and gave me an idea of what editing I would need to use. The sketch on the magazine advert plan enabled me to go out and take the effective image I wanted, I knew exactly what I needed to do and what I needed to catch within the picture. I also meant i knew that i need to use photoshop. For my advert I have chosen use a black and white edit which will have to be done on photoshop and I wanted to take a few colours from the real image and bring them back in to them back to the advert, so that most was black and white but some elements were in colour. Knowing this meant that I prepared to create the album advert and could practice on how to do it before creating the real thing.
