Rough Cut - Miss Gergiou

 Rough Cut
Audience feedback is important to a production because it allows the producers too see what is most effective to the specfic target audience. If it is known what the audience think about a product it can them be improved to appeal even more. They can point out the negatives which can then be changed and the positives which can give ideas for the weaker parts of the product. It is essential to follow out a rough cut so that this audiene feedback is given. The audience can see the basic of the product and then say what needs to be added or changed. Their opinions make sure that the producer has enough ideas for the final cut to be as effective as possible.
I recieved my audiene feedback through youtube and a questionnaire. First was the questionnaire from my primary research, I made list of questions relivant to the product I wanted to create and then asked 40 people. With the results i could see what the audience were in demand of and what they enjoyed to see the most. I then chose the most effecitve elements they chose and planned to use them in my music video. The other piece of audience feedback was youtube, I posted my rough cut on youtube and made it public. This meant that people could comment on it, like or dislike it and share it onto other social media sites. The comments and like buttons ment that the audience could leave their opinion after watching the rough cut.
The feedback benefits my productions because it allows my group and I to understand what the audience think about the product. We are able to see there side of it and what they want to be included within the music video. Therefore we could use elements that we knew they wanted and what was most effective to them, meaning our product would attract them more. It is benefitial because the more specific the product is to the target audience means the more successful it will be.

One of the comments positive left on the rough cut on youtube was "costumes fits the narrative really well!!!'. This person mentions that they like how the costumes fit the narrative. We planned out the artist image for each of the scenes and thought alot in to the costumes and what they could include to make the narrative stand out more. Clearly they seem to think that our planning was effective. This was helpful because it meant the group and I didnt have to change the costumes of the characters and that the plan worked well.
Another positive comment said "Very good performance". The comment mentions that the performance scene in the music video was effective, they praise the performance of out artist. This is a good comment as my group and I know that we wont need to make changes to that scene, we can see that it is enjoyable.
One last positve audience feeback was "Good use of shots". This comment tells my group and I that we used our shots well to represent our artist and the other elements of the video. This ment we knew that we was using the cinematography well and that it was effective.
Although one of the negaive comments said "a variation of shots is needed", so even though the previous comment said that the shots were used well, it didnt say that there was a wide enough range. This person saisd that there is not  enough shots, they thinkthe video needs a vaitation of shots and that there are too many of the same. This comment was very helpful because it ment that when it came to adding and changing the rough cut we knew that we need to do some more filming in order to expand the shots used.
Another constructive comment was "add the text to to the final cut pro for improvements".  This comment says that we need to add text to the music video, which my group and I didnt already know. We forgot to add the title of the song and the artist name. But this comment reminded us that this was essential. We could then add the text into the final cut meaning our audience could identify what the song was and who was singing it.
A final constructive comment was to make some shots brighter. We had filmed one of our scene outside so the day light went fairly qucikly and the shot came out very dark. We then knew that in the final cut we would have to change the contrast so that it was clearer. This would make the scene easier to watch and see what was going on.

When making changes to our rough cut we will be adding the text infoming the audience of the title and the artist name. we will also add a wider range of shots so that the video stays intrigueing and the audienc dont get bored of watching. Finally we will have to brighten the date scene so that everything is visible and the quality improves.

Individual digpak - Miss Miller

Individual Digipak Analysis
For part if my work I have had to create a digipak for my artist and thier album. This digipak adds the publicity of the artist and makes the audience more intruigues to buy the products. It shows them some elements they might enjoy within the music also making them want to buy the album.  This is my full digipak below;

I am going to be talking about the 6 different elements in each page of my digipak which are; Colours, conventions, images, typography, layout and language and why they are effective.

Page 1

Colours- In this first page, which is the front cover for my digipak I have followed the plan. The image is black and white and some letters within the text are a lilac colour. The black and white shows the different emotions of the songs. The greys and black show the more gloomy sad messages witin the music whilst the white and purple show the happier and more positvie aspects. The purple also makes the page stand out because they are no other bright colours therefore it is very visible and draws the audiences attention. Conventions- They are also a few conventions in the page, the first is the black and white edit over the image. The black and white is conventional because the colours are often used in soul products whether on the album cover or in a music video. The black and white shows the age of the soul genre and allows the audience to see that this music has been around for a long time. The audience expect to see this edit because it is commonly used by soul artists.
Another conventions of this image it the iconography used in the image. The artist is holding a microphone, this is conventional because often soul artist use performance as one of their main styles. This performance style is emphasised by the mircophone because it is often seen in all performances whether it is hand held like in the image or a mini clip on one. The audience expect to see this piece of iconography in the soul genre and therefore it is conventions to soul and my artist.
Image- The image for this page focuses on the aritst and the performance genre. It is a close up/mid shot of her with the microphone in her hand. The shot allows the audience to see her facial expressions which are blank, she shows them the seriousnes of her songs and how much they mean to her. As her expressions are so bland the audience percieve her as very serious, this then rubs off onto the music they begin to link her emotions with the songs and go onto understand that they follow her true emotions they are not just for fun and entertainment. The audience can link other serious matters in there life to the seriousness of the artist, they can then relate to her aand understand her connection with the music and the songs she has written.
Typography- The text on this page is bold yet plain. The letters are very straight and there are lots of sharp corner. This font stands out to the audience because there is nothing a bold on the page apart from the image. The audienc can easily read it and it is very clear that the text is important. The text is white and lilac which is used because the backgorund is all black, there for these two colours stand out a lot and attract the audiences attention.
Layout- There is much layout infomaitons for the image except for the positioning of the text and the images. The image is placed to the left side of the page so the the artist is also to the side leaving the right blank. This is where the text is placed, because these two elements are on different sides of the page they are both very visible for the audience. The two elements stand out and the audiene are able to focus on them and understand them easily rather than having a crowded page where the elements arent very clear.
Language-There is not much to talk about when it comes the language of this page because it only states the artists name ' Cara-Lily' and the title of the album 'Your Girl'.

Page 2

Colours- The colours in this image are again black and white but instead of having the lilac hints, the wine had been turnt to red. The black and white shows the different emotions of the songs. The greys and black show the more gloomy sad messages witin the music whilst the white and red shows the happier and more positvie aspects. The red also stands out from the rest of the page because it is the only bright colour, the audience are immeadiatly drawn in by it and therfore look at the other pages aswell.
Conventions- Again a conventions for this page is the black and white edit over the image. The black and white is conventional because the colours are often used in soul products whether on the album cover or in a music video. The black and white shows the age of the soul genre and allows the audience to see that this music has been around for a long time. The audience expect to see this edit because it is commonly used by soul artists.
The iconography in the image is also covnentional. The image is of glass of wine being poured, often when this is seen in music it means the artist is relying on alcohol to fuel them and that the are unstable. It is conventionsal because soul artists are often seen as slightly inscure and they are known for the use of alcohol in their videos. This attratcs the audience because they can see from the wine that the artist isnt very stable and therefore will have alot to write into her songs, making them of deeper menaing.
Image- As spoke about above the image is conventions because the instablity the wine represents. the only thing that is in colour in th ehsot is the liquid itself this shows that to the artist nothing else matter but the alcohol, she is replying on it and using it to forget her issues. As nothing else in colour the audienc can see that nothing else matters to her when she drinks, this is very powerful because the audience maybe able to relate to the feeling or know someone how is the same as the artist. I chose this image because I thought it represented the weaker side of the artist and made the digipak more interesting.
Layout- The layout of them image used is very basic the main element of the image, which is the wine, is at the centre of the page and in a close up. This shows the audience that it needs to looked and understand, they can see that there is some inportance to the wine and therefore the read more into to image, Although this layout is simple it makes sure the audience are being shown the neccassary parts and can focus on inportant elements.
Typography- There is no text on this page becauseI thought the image was more effective is it was on its own. I also think that there is enough text throughout the digipak and nothing wa sneeded in this page as any infomation has already been said.
Language- Again there is no text in this page so I cannot dicuss the language as there is none.

Page 3

Colours- For page three there are alot more colours than the two previous pages. The stripes which are seen going across the CD are a dark grey colour whcih fits in with the black and white theme across my digipak. and the make up items which  is set behind the stripes include different colours for example, pink, purple, black and gold. The grey shows the more depressions emotions in the album and that some songs are gloomy, whilst the pink, purple and other colours in the back image show the mor eupbeat songs, with happier, exciting emotions. These colour are effective because they show the audience all the different emotions with in the songs and they connote the different feelings of the artist.
Conventions- One convention in this page is the colours, as said above they show the different emotions of the artist and how they vary. The range of emotions represented is conventions because soul songs are never one mood, just because its soul doesnt mean it has to be happy or sad, the songs change emotions all the time. The audience never expect one feeling when listerning to soul because they know it serves all differnt meanings.
Another convention could be the make up in the image behind the stripes. Female soul artists normally have an original look to them, they like to have unique make up and therefore the image sybolises their look. The make is convnetional because it shows the audience the stereotypical image focused artist.
Image- There image is of lots of different make up products. This image is in colour so that it represents the more upbeat emotions for the album. They audience can see that their is some viberance to the songs and its not just sad music. This makes them want to buy the product and see what emotions are created and relate to what the colours suggest. As the iconography is make up this represents the importance of the artist imgae. She likes to look her best and the make up is important when it comes to her being herself.
Layout- For this page the image of the make up is behind the stripes. I chose to have the two elements positioned like this because the make up represents the artist and how she likes to be herself, be coloiurful and happy but sometimes the saddnes take over this and takes control. They grey stripes symbolise her issues and depressing emotions so having them over the top of the make up sybolises how these emotions can take over her being herself. They audience can relate to this because they can see that she cant help the way she feels and if she is sad it may because hard to overcome it, they have most likey felt like this and and understand her emotions.
Typography- There is no text on this page, this is because I though the image gave enough meaning to the audience and if i were to add text the page would be crakmped and look unprofessional.
The black and white is conventional because the colours are often used in soul products whether on the album cover or in a music video. The balcka nd white shows the age to the soul genre and allow the audience to see that this music has been around for a long time. The audience expect to see this edit because it is commonly used by soul artists.
Language- There is also nothing I can say about the language because there is no text on this page.

Page 4

Colours- In pae four there are lots of colours involved. Half the image is in full colour with the trees being green and the sky white and blue, whilst the other half is in black and white so it is very dull in contrast. These colours have the same effect as the text and the image in page 1, where some letters are in purple whilst the rest is in black and white. The brighter more viberant colours represent the songs whih follow a happy message and have and upbeat vibe to them and the black and white represents the sadder, gloomier songs in the album. This interests the audience because they are able to see the range of emoitons and the different feeling they may experience if they purchase this album. They become in trigued to see how the artist an put each eotions into a song and how she portrays the messages.
Image- The image for the page is of the artist looking out onto a lake whilst holding the side of her skirt out. She is posing in a very feminine way, whilst her hand delicatly by her side and her head looking straight ahead, this shows the audience her sensitve side as they can see she is just like any other woman and therefore experiences the same emotions. I decided to use this image because it show the artist in her own enviroment and lets the audience know tht she is just like any other person and she likes to be at one with the world and her music.
Conventions- The first convention which is important in this page is the contrasting colours. As said before the variation in colours show the audience the different emotions used in the album and how the songs change. This is conventions because sous music is not ment to be one emotionsw it is ment to vary, soul can have a ny effect on the audience and that is what it is known for. The audience expect it to  just be sad or just be happy, they want to see different emotions. Therefore it is conventional because the colours represent this and show the audience they are going to get the stereotypical range of emotions.
Another convention is the setting. The lake is convenitonal to the soul genre because it is an every day place, it is not superfical or made up just for the sake of publicity. Soul artist noramlly use setting that the audience can relate too, they chose a place which the audinece have most likely visited themselves, so that they can relate the artist and how they may be feeling whilst in the location. The audience expect to see simple setting nothing extraordinary therfore is is conventional ti the soul genre.
Layout- The layout is simple for this page, the artist is in the centre of the page and the text is at the top. This is so that the audience can see both important elements. The text is easily readable and visible to the audience because it is placed in the clouds, the font is blakc and stand out from the background. Also having the artist in the middle of the page shows the audience that she is the most important asset in this image and that the way she is being represented needs to be focused on.
Typography- The font for this piece of text is the same as page one, the text is bold yet plain. The letters are very straight and there are lots of sharp corner. This font stands out to the audience because is it harsh and stands out from the elegance of the image it is placed on. Also because it is black and placed on white clouds, it stand out a lot, the opposite colours made it stand out alot. The text is made very clear because of this and the audience can easily and quickly read it.
Language- The text on this page says "Thank you for buying my album, supporting me and having faith. I hope you like my new songs and thry are enjoyable for you. Cars-Lily". This is written is a formal manor. You can see this because there is no slang used, it is a sincere letter from the artist to her audience saying that she hopes htey like the product. It is written so that the audience can see she is being serious about her work and that there approval means alot to her. the audinec are drawn in by this because they known she has worked hard on it and therefore is is more likely to be a good piece of work.

Page 5
Colours- There are only threes colours in this page which are grey, white and purple. These contrasting colours do the same thing as the other pages, they show the different emotions of the songs within the album. The grey represents the sad songs, white is the hopeful and purple is the happy songs. The three colours show they audience what they will experience if they buy the product. This range of emotions is intriguing for the audinece because they will want to see how the artist can change a song to make it feel a certain way and how she changes herself with each emotions.
Image- There is no image in the age is is simply a grey background with some text. I wanted to have a page without an image because I thought if all six pages had a pciture the audience would know where to look and if there was one plainer page then the product would look as busy or overpowering.
Conventions- The conventions in this page is the colours, as said above they show the different emotions of the artist and how they vary. The range of emotions represented is conventions because soul songs are never one mood, just because its soul doesnt mean it has to be happy or sad, the songs change emotions all the time. The audience never expect one feeling when listening to soul because they know it serves all differnt meanings.
Layout- The layout for this page is very simple. The text is the only main asset on the page it i have placed it in the middle. The reason I did this is because it stands out the most if it is centred, the audience are most likely to look at the text is it is the first thing in sight when they look onto the page. There isnt anything else to do with the layout on this page because it is very bland.
Typography- There are only two letters on this page which are the initials of the artist, the C and L are in the same bold font as the other text on the other pages, it has just been made bigger. This font is very effective which is why it has been used throughout the product. Instead of it being black like it is on the other page it is in a purle brick pattern. This has been done because the lilac colours is the theme of my digipak and it shows the conventional range of emotions. The brick pattern makes the page more interesting to look at rather than having the letter in a block colour. It attracts the attetnion of the audience and makes them see the creativity of the artist.
Language- The text on this page is not a full sentence it is just the artist initials so it cannot be defined at formal or informal.

Page 6

Colours- This final page is the back cover for my digipak. The image is black and white and the text is the same lilac colour used throughout the product. The black and white shows the different emotions of the songs. The greys and black show the more gloomy sad messages within the music whilst the white and purple show the happier and more positvie aspects. The purple also makes the page stand out because they are no other bright colours, therefore it is very visible and draws the audiences attention.
Image- The image for the page is of the artist holding onto the stage cutain whilst looking to the ground sadly. It is a long shot which shows her looking glum and unenthusiastic. This is effective because the audience can see her emotions and understand that she she upset or down, they can relate her emotions to there own experiences and will therfore want to listern to the music and find out more. As the audience can feel a connection with the artist through this image they willwnat to buy product and further build on the relationship.
Conventions- The black and white edit over the image is a conventions to the sould genre. The black and white is conventional because the colours are often used in soul products whether on the album cover or in a music video. The black and white shows the age of the soul genre and allows the audience to see that this music has been around for a long time. The audience expect to see this edit because it is commonly used by soul artists.
Another convention is the sad faical espressions of the artist. It is conventions for a soul artist to experience some saddnes because they stereotypically have a lto of issues, which is what their songs are based upon. The audience expect to see some depression from the artiwt because it shows that they have alot that they can interpret into their music making it more effective and relatable for them.
Layout- The artist is placed to the left side of the page, the same as page one. and other assets are placed around her. The productions companies logo is in the bottom left corner, the barcode is in this bottom right corner and the list of some songs in the album of placed down the right hand side. The artist is on the left and the songs are on the right because then they both stand out and have their own space with no over lapping. The audience can see that both elements are important and they are made very clear so that the audience can read or look at them easily.
Typography -The text on this page is bold yet plain. The letters are very straight and there are lots of sharp corners. This font stands out to the audience because there is nothing a bold on the page apart from the image. They can easily read it and it is very clear that the text is important. Also the text is liac following the themes throughout the digipak. The lilac stands out form the black and white image but doesnt take away all attetion from other assets. The lilac also attarcts the audience because it make the text highly visible from the black/grey background.
Language- There is not much to say about the language in this page ebcasue they text used is just a list of some songs within the album. It is not a piece written by the artist like the letter it is simple a few suggestions to what the audience may like.

Final digipak

This is my final digipak, there have been quite a few changed made from the first copy.

  • Firstly I changed the second page from a glass of wine to a close up off the artist, looking down smiling. I thought this image allowed the audience to relate to the artist more, they are shown her emotions of happiness and joy. This make them feel more involved with the music and can figure out whether they will like it or not.
  • The second thing I changed was the CD, I thought the image of make didn't have enough relevance to the artist and therefore didn't want to use it. Instead I used the sign of a old fashion bar with a brick background and added a red tone filter over the top. This related more to the artist, her music and the video my group and I created because a similar location is used in the music video and soul artists are often seen performing in these locations.
  • For page 4 I kept the image the same but changed the editing. Instead of the gradient tool across the image, I put a black and white filter and the effect called 'sumi-e', I also made the red skirt its original colour. I thought this made the image look more interesting and work better with the black, white and red theme of the digipak.
  • Page 5 I changed completely, I removed the initials of the artist and added a picture of spilt wine. This showed the realistic feel to of the a bum, songs and the artist. It was more relate for the audience and more intriguing. I also made the image black and white, then I made the liquid (wine) it original colour, finally i toned down the saturation by 40% so that it was less bright and a dull red/burgundy colour.

Group meetings - Miss Geogiou

Group meetings
The purpose of group meetings are to make sure that everyone is on the same page and that ideas and thoughts are being shared. This communication allows a group to work better together because they help them relate with eachother and open up about any issues or chnages needed. They are essential to carry out because they make sure that all group members know what is going on with the production, it prevents any confusion and opens up the opinions within the group. The members are enabled to express their ideas and take on board others input making the production overall more likely to work better and run smoothly.
The group meeting helped me and my group when constucting out music video because it gave up alot of communication meaning there where no issues of lack of infoment to other members. We were able to openly talk about our ideas and plans for the production of the video, no one was left out and everything was able to run smoothly. The group meetings ment my group and I were able to sit down with eachother and plan out each element of out music video, we could disucss what we thought would look best and how we wanted everything to fit in. We were able to map out every detail and make sure they met everyones needs and everyone agreed.
I think a strength within our group meetings what that everyone was heard, all members were allowed to air their opinions and they were always taken on board. The group were easily able to talk about how we wanted our music video to be and this ment that we had a clear image of how we wanted it to look. From this my group and I were able to create our music video to the way we wanted it to look and what we imagined it to be like.

From carry out the group meetings I have learnt that it is very important to have the communication with a group of people having to work together and that without it the work doesnt run smoothly. Without the meeting there are many more issues and problem that occur because there hasnt been enough dicussion on the point which are important in the product. I think my group and I work well together throughout the creation of our music video, and we kept out communication open. We allowed eachother to say our opinions and we all took them onboard to come up with group decision that met the look everyone was goiong for.
If I were to have to do this again I would have had a few more meetings just to make sure that everything was perfect and any issues were covered. I would also make them more specific to certain elements which wold mean everything was covered on a wider basis.

Photoshoot - Miss Miller

Photoshoot
You need to take pictures when creating the product I am (magazine advert and digipak). Images are needed for these products because they make them more effective and show the audience the different  styles of the album and the personality and ideas of the artist. The pictures are essential because they stop the products from being boring and create a more exciting piece including connotaitons and conventions which appeal to the audience. It is also important to take a variety of image because some may not come out in the intended way or may not look as theyare wanted when it comes to creating the products. Having different pictures make sure there is a back up plan and they also show the different sides the music and the artist. Each image and represent the artist in a different was or show a different emoitons which then reflects on the sonfs within the album.

Before
Image 1-    I took the particular image because I thought it show the audience the representation of the artist very well. She is clearly visible to them and they can see every element of her hair, make-up and costume, as well as some other micro-elements like a long shot and lightings. I have chosen this image to be used in my digipak. It has been used as a message page, where the artist has written a note around her body to her audience. I chose this because I thought the red curtain provided a good blank space for the text   to be focused on therefore the audience would not be destracted by any other elements exept for the artist herself. The image is convetional because it show the classy artist representation. She is shown as a respectable woman in a black dress with nicley done make up and hair, this shows the audience that she repescts herself, which is a common representation in female soul artists. After I edited the image it was in blacka dn white which is also conventional because it show the old fashioned side the the music. Soul orginated in the 1950's and therefore the black and white theme relates to this ear where all videos and image where the same. These conventions make the digipak more effective because they allow the audience to make a deeper connection witht the musicvideo and the soul genre, they can get a better undertsnading of what the elements mean and also what they mean to the artist. I think this audience can build a relationship with the artist through this image because they can see a clear representation of her. The audience are able to see her as a respectable woman and they therefore follow this, they look up to her. They cna also see her hair, make-up nd cotumes which they make like and idolise, this make the build a realtionship with her as they may have the same style. The audience can reate her image to other pople in their lives and then go on to respect her as they would with the people in real life.

ADD AND AFTER IMAGE

Image 2 -    This image was taken because it shows the faical expressions of the artist and shows her audience how se if feeling. Not only down the image show this it also the black and white setting which is conventional. I used this image in my digipak, I kept the image the same with no text on it, just an effect to remove some of the colours.

Image 1 -
Main
  • Include 4 – 5 pictures that you have taken to use for both your magazine advert and digipak
  • Write a paragraph for each picture explaining:
  • Why you have taken a picture of this particular image?
  • Where you intend to use each picture (digipak? Advert?) – include pictures of before and after (actual digipak etc.)?
  • How is it conventional/subversive of your chosen genre?
  • What you think is good about it?
  • How you think they will help the audience build a relationship with your artist?

Conclusion
  • Explain how you found taking pictures for your photo shoot – what do you feel you did particularly well? What do you feel you struggled with?
  • Explain what representation these pictures give your artist overall
  • Explain how as a group you will create individual magazine album adverts and digipaks, and therefore needed to take a variety of photos for each other’s different ideas

Individual magazine advert - Miss Miller

Individual Magazine Advert
The purpose of having a magazine advert is to make the album known, it gives the product publicity and attracts more buyers. The advert follows conventions other elements which link to the digipak and the artists in order for the audience to see what the album is like and show the different representations for the music included. It promotes the album by creating different macro meanings for the audience and showing them the emotions behind the music and the artist, further making them want to listen and buy the product to find out how these representations are lived up to. The advert also promotes the music video which I have created because it shows the style of it, in the image my artist is performing, showing the audience that there is a performance scene within some of the music videos. The audience then want to watch the video not just listen to the much they want to shed how the artist can perform their music and what emotions they create.
For creating my magazine advert I used a software called Photoshop CS6. This software was chosen because it allows you work in layers, each element of the advert is a separate piece meaning everything is easily changed or moved. The layers make the process a lot quicker to edit, each piece of text can be moved to different places, made different colours and font, the images and be on top of one another and both can have different effects. Therefore all assets can be made individual whilst being able to fit in to everything else.
I came up with my advert idea by researching into other female soul artists and their previous advert for the albums. I then elaborated on these ideas when planning for my own advert. A lot of my ideas were from Adele's 21 album, I took most of my inspirations from her colour use and expanded on them to make them fit int my product and my artist better. When planning my advert I made the ideas I took from Adele's advert and elaborates on the emotions changes elements so that the would link in more with my music video and the artist. For example her stand out colour was lime green but I didn't like the emotions it created, so I decided on using an equally vibrant colour to create different emotions but attract the audience in the same way.

I decided to use certain elements in my magazine advert to appeal to my target audience and promote my artist effectiviley;

Colours -  For my magazine advert I have used a black and white effect over the image. I believe the basic colours shows the two most conventional emotions when it comes to soul music, the black connotes sadness and mystery and the white connotes happiness and hope. The dark greys and black represent the more depressive songs which show the sad side to the artist and the negative effect the songs messages have on her. Whilst the whites and light greys represent the positive songs which shows the artist with a brighter and happier persona. The two colours help to promote the artist because they inform the audience of her emotions within the album they are enable to build a relationship with the artist throughout the common feelings, this promotes her because see is seen as relatable. I also used pastel purple for the text. This colour show another side the artist and the album by representing a more classy image, purple connotes luxury. Therefore the colour shows the audience the professionalism of the album and how it is a serious piece of work that means a lot to the artist. Whilst also giving it a little touch to make it look appealing and interesting to the audience. This colour also promote the artist because it show the audience her professional side and how much her work and music means to her rather than it just being a hobby, it shows them that she takes pride in it and wants it to be the best it can be. The relation the colours give to the audience also promotes the artist because the more able to connect with her and know that they will enjoy the songs on the album, so if the audience can immeaditaly relate to the colours through the advert they are more likely to buy the album bcause they are attratced to the artist.

Conventions of genre - One genre convention in my magazine album advert is the black and white effect on the image. It is conventional to the soul genre because it is often to used to portray a classical look, this is because soul music has been around since the 1950's. Everything back in the 50's was in black and white there was no colour in pictures or videos, so having this effect takes the audience back to where to music originated from. It keeps the audience aware of when soul was created and makes them feel as though they are connected to the roots of the music genre.
Another conventional element I have used in my magazine advert is the font of the writing. I have chosen two different types of font one that looks classical, it is curly and the end of the letters swirl off and the other has straight letters and is in bold. The first font is conventional because it looks pretty, most soul adverts or album cover use font which looks attractive because it make the overall product and the artist seem elegant and fashionable. The other straight font represents the boldness of the artist which is often how female soul artists are represented because they are stereotypically strong independent women.
Both these elements make the advert appeal to the audience because they make it look nice, they are easy on the eye and appeal because of the attractiveness. The black and white edit gives a unique look and therefore intrigues the audience whilst the two different fonts support the female artists image. The two elements discussed above show the audience the visually attractive side to the album and the artist which appeals to them because they can idolise it. They also promote the artist as they both give a hint about her music and her emotions, the black and white allow the audience to see the negatives and positives in her her life, allowing them to relate to her and feel a connection with he product. Whilst the font show her feminine side, her personality amd her strength, also allowing them to relate to her and they can also relate the attractive font to her image and begin to idolise her.
Another convention in my magazine advert is theiconography in the image. The artist is seen singing into a microphone, the is conventional because of the realtion it has to the soul genre. Often soul songs cotain a performance seen, so havung this in an image shows how the artist follow the conventions by performing her music. It also portrays her as passionate about her work because she wants to perform it not just let the audience listern to a pre-recorded piece

Image -  In my magazine advert there is only one image which is a close up of the artist, this image is placed behind all the other elements on the advert and fills the whole page. As the images is a close up to shows the audience the facial expressions of the artist and her singing into the microphone. She is looking straight and has barley any emotions showing, the fact that her face is blank may infer her mixed emotions as she is unsure of what to show or how to feel at that point. Having mixed emotions links to the black and white edit which is used, it shows the audience the different emotions for the songs within the album and how the messages and feelings of each may vary, some positive and some negative. The image appeals to the audience because of the relationship it enables them to build a relationship with the artist, they are given a the chance to connect with her through her emotions, being able to take them into account and relate them back to their own lives and experiences, meaning they can understand what she is feeling. This therefore making them want to buy the album as they will feel as though they can understand the music within it and will gain a deeper relationship with the artist. The image promotes the artist as it makes the audience feel a connect with her and they therefore feel close with her and the music.

Layout/design - The layout for my magazine advert is very simple and plain. The image of my artist takes up the whole page and the text is placed over it but to the right. The artist name Cara-Lily is on the right centre of the screen and the album name, Your Girl, is just above. This layout is simple and easy to understand, the audience can get all the information they need without being over powered by other things on the advert. Having the text to the side of the image makes both elements clear to the audience and easier to see and understand. The layout if appealing for the audience to understand because they able to see everything they need to clearly, they can see the artist and her emotion, her name and the album title which is all they need to see. From this they can decided if they will enjoy the music and go on to buy the album. The layout also promotes the artist because the audience are able to see the big image of her, meaning they can see her mixed emotions and relate to her. This is a promotional asset because they can build a relationship with her and will want to buy the product in order to gain a deeper understanding of her messages.

Typography - One of the typography's for the advert looks very feminine, the font is very curly and looks signature like, showing the gentle, pretty side to the advert, artist and the music. Some of the text is white whislt the rest is a pastel purple colour which was chosen because it makes it stand out from the rest of the advert, the audience eyes are immediately drawn to it and therefore read the information they need to in order to buy the album or see if they will enjoy it. The purple also connotes the respectability of the advert and how it is a piece of work and a piece of art, it shows the audience that the artist is serious about her music and it means a lot to her. The of tyography is a staright fotn which is plain and bold. This fotn show the stronger independent side the artist and show how she is a bold person whom doesnt follow others. The different elements of the typography appeals to the audience because it shows them the elegance of the advert and boldness of the artist. It also shows that it isn't just about the music but it actually means something to the artist. Not only do the audience find it visually appealing, they also build a relationship with the artist through learning her style, they can see what she likes things to looks like and taste. This goes onto promote the artist because the audience are enable to build this relationship with her and may like her idea of how to make things look nice, they make look up to this and idolise her for it.

Language - The language for my magazine album advert is formal. There is not a lot of text within my advert but what there is of it is formal, there is no slang used just the name of the artist, the album and a list of songs included. This shows the audience that the product it respectable, it is not just music and that the artist depends on it. It shows good selling and promotional skills for other products relating the album and the artist. This appeal to the audience because they are shown that the album is a serious piece of work and should live up to the expectations. It also promote the artist because the language reflects her, she is represented as respectable therefore the audience will want to see her work and will want to build a relationship.

Connotations - As said before there are connotations of the colours in my magazine advert. The black and white edit over the image represents the contrast in emotions for the album. The white shows the happy, hopeful images, whilst the black shows the depressive feelings of some songs. The purple text connotes the more classy image, as is represents luxury. Not only do the colours give macro meanings but so does the facial expressions of the artist. Her blank face infers her mixed emotions as she is unsure of what to shows or who to feel at that point. Having mixed emotions links to the black and white edit which is used, it shows the audience the different emotions for the songs within the album and how the messages and feelings of each may vary, some positive and some negative. Another connotion within my advert is the femine font used for some of the text, it is made to look signiture like, possibly showing that the artist had a lot to do with the creation of the piece. The audience can see that anytime her name is mentioned it is in this curly font, hinting that the artist was very involoved with the creation of the album and advert and it therefore realte to her. All these connotations appeal to the audience because they provider macro meanings and therefore they can understand the product better and the artist, the can build a relationship with her and connect with the messages of the songs. They also promote the artist because the audience are given a better insight into what the artist feel about the music and her she take pride in her work, the are allowed to build built a relationship with her and idolise her.

Photoshop - When using photoshop I was faced with a couple issues. The biggest issue if had was with the black and white effect over the image also effetcing the text which isnt not what i wanted. Once I put the effect on the image I then added text, which included white and purple. Further through the creation I realised that the purple fron the font had gone and that the black and white effect had also been placed onto the writing. The problem was easily resolved when i simpy move the text layer so that it was above the effectes. The font them went back to the colours I originally had and it didnt happen again.
The other problem which occued when creating my magazine advert was making the image fit the page without being over stretched or misshaped. When placed my image on to page I dragged it out so that it was the size I wanted it to be, but it enlongate the artist and made her look off shape. I tried again but the same thing happened, so I asked my teacher and he told me to hold down 'shift' and then dra it out. This ment that the top and side lines stayed in the right place they just zoomed in, this ment that the image didnt change shape it just simply expanded and didnt become disfigured.

I also had some strengths when it came to using photoshop for my magazine advert was the magic eraser tool, this ment that I could take out any backgrounds from images that were unnecessary or didnt fit well witht he other elements. I found this easy to use because I have used it alot before when creating other project, for example a film poster. I used this tool on the stars in my advert, as they had a white background and therefore left a white box onto of my main image. This didnt look professional so I took out the white and just left the four stars on there own, this ment they blended into the rest of the advert better.  As this made the advert look more professional it was therfore more successful because of the high quality the audience are attratced to it and go on to learn more about the music and the artist.
Another strength of mine on photoshop is the colour copy and paint brush tool along with the blur tool. I had to use these three techniques together a one point in the advert creeation, this is because they was a white mark on my image from the way that the picture was taken. To get rid of ths i knew that I could use the colour copy tool and take orginal colour just above the white spot, I then chose the paint brush tool and went over the white patch with the copied grey. This got rid of the mark and made the image better quality. But the paint brush left a few lines around the patch, i knew that i could get rid of these by using the blurring tool to smudge out the lines, this made all the colours blend together and white mark was no longer visable. I think these tools are a strengths of mine because I was able to work very quickly with them and I knew what to do. I was able to make the image for my advert look professional and flawless, which goes onto make it more successful because they audience see it as respectable piece of work.

Inspirations - I gained many inspiration from my resarch into music videos and soul artist and genres. One of the main idea i took from my research was from Adeles 21 album advert which I analysed. She used black and white for her image whcih i have also used. I thought this would be a good element to have because it is conventional and shows connotaitons of the songs included. Iwanted to used this in my product because I thought it was very effective on Adeles piece and i wanted to have the same effect for my work. The contrasting emotions of happy and sad are how i want my artists album to be shown. She also used one brighter colour for the text, which was a lime green. I wanted to do the same with my product as I thought it made it look overall more professional it gave it a hint of excitement rather than just having the black and white. So I decided to follow this but instead on the lime gren I used  a pastel purple. It had the effected I wanted and made my advert look professional and gave it an element of excitment.
I also used an inspiration from the reserach I did into chosen artist, Amy Winehouse. In the video in analysed for Back To Black, throughout the video Amy has very serious facial expressions, she has a constant black face which does show happiness or sadness it is just plain. I think this is effective because the audience can see that the artist is experienceing all differnt emoitons ans that her songs are of all different meanings that she can not show them all in one facial expression. I used this look for my main image of the artist in my advert. I have chosen and image which showsmy artist with a blank face it show my audienc that sh edoesnt have one specific emoitns but many, it allows them to see that she is experiencing a lot and that they at some point in the album will be able to relate to her.

Adaption - There are some element of my advert which do not completely follwo the plan I made but most ideas have just been adapted into something more fitting or more effective. For exmple in my plan I spoke about having one font for the whole advert, which was a feminie curly font. This idea was still used but the text wasnt all in this font. I found that when i was creating the advert is was boring to have all the writing in one font, so I thought I would have two. I chose a contrastingfront which was plain straight and bold. This made the advetr stand out more and the audience were more able to tell the difference between the imporant infomation e.g. the artists name and the ablum from the other text which wasnt essential to them.
Another change I made from my plan was that I was think about having the text in the centre of the page but because of the image i chose it fitted better to the right side of the page. Hvaing the artist on the left side ment that changning the text to the right rather than the middle made it more visable and clear to the audience. I think it made the advert look more professional and the elements fitted in beter when they werent all over lapping. The more spaced out layout fitted better and made the product more effective as the audience could see the infomaiton they need and could also read the meotions of the artist.

Conclusion
I think my advert matches with the conventions of the soul genre because each element was created to relate with soul themes. The black and white effect was specifically chosen because it link back to the orignal ea of soul music, whilst the image of the artist shows the convention mixed emotions of soul music and shows the audience that soul artist use a variety of emotions to allow their audience to relate to them. I think the elemtns in more magazine album advert following the conventions well and make the product more appeling.
I think it appeals to the audience because everything is clear and reatable. Each element has a different way of connecting with the audience and enabling them to build a realtionshio with the artist. This draws them in because they want to find out more about the songs and the artist, they are given hints about the music but arent shown the full extent of it meaning they are intrigued to find out more.
I think the creation of my magazone advert will help with the promotion of the artist and the album because hte audience are given an insight of what they might gai from buying the album. They are given tasters for the music and can see wether they wll enjoy the emtions it provides or not. The different elements promte the artist and album in different ways and intrigue the audience be doing so. I think this all promotes the album and artist because they are shown and professional and worth the money.

Risk assessment - Miss Georgiou

Risk Assessment
The purpose of a risk assessment it to iron out any issues when it comes to filming a product. It shows the cast and crew the risk of the filming and how it can be prevent, it allows the crew to take the necessary precautions before filming starts to ensure that the issues won't occur. The risk assessments overall outcome is that it prevents problems from occurring by figuring out what they could be and how they can resolved. There is also a back plan incase the precautions don't work and something does occur that could endanger someones safety or equipment to be damaged. This is why it is important to consider the risks before filming, a risk can still occur even when the solution has taken place this is why a back up plan is often on standby. The back up plan provides extra insurance so that the filming, the cast and  the crew are less likely to be affected by an incident occurring.

When it came to filming my group and I followed our risk assessment and took all the necessary precautions in order to prevent the risk occurring. We didn't have any un expected risk whilst filming our music video but we didn't hit an issue. We had to result in a back up plan the the first solution failed. The happened with the risk of loose wires, possibly tripping someone up one cast member notice the tape which help the wire to the ground had become loose at which point my group and I had to turn to the back up plan of putting high-vis tap over the original tape to that everyone was able to see that there was a hazard. From this everyone could see that there was an issue and would walk over the wires prevent them to become loose again and high risk. We had to do this because otherwise a crew or cast member could have been injured if they tripped or fell on the wires and the equipment could have been pulled over if sone caught on them, meaning it could have been damaged or completely broken.
Apart from the one issue discussed no other risks became a treat and no other back up plan had be used. The black plan for the wire on the ground being a tripping hazard prevent any injuries or damage to equipment and worked in the way it was men to.
I have learnt that the role of a risk assessment is very important during filming because it insures that there are not going to many major issues which could jeopardise shooting. The risk assessment meant that even if one of the risks occurred, we knew how to resolve it and if the first idea didn't work we had a back up plan, making the my group and I more prepared for the problems we were likely to face.

Filming schedule - Miss miller

 Filming schedule
It is important to use a filming schedule when shooting for a video product. The filming schedule keep everything in check and flowing properly. It tells the crew what needs to be in which shots, when and where they are being filmed, this means that they can get it all organised before filming starts in order for the process to run smoothy. It is important to use a filming schedule because it means that the cast and crew all know what they are doing and there won't be any mistakes or confusing in the shooting.
When my group and I began filming we stuck to most of our filming schedule. We followed all the different elements in the shots, the camera angles, hair and make-up and the crew needed. Most things were kept the same and followed properly which worked well, everything flowed and were only faced with a few issues. One of the problems we battled was the weather, our walk of shame and date scene are both based outside to the weather proved an issue. We planned to film both these scenes on the 29th of October but when it came to do day of filming it was raining, foggy and dull outside. This was an issue for our scene because we wanted a more brighter image and the rain meant we could take the equipment outside as we didn't have the correct covers to protect it from water damage. Because of this we had to check the wether for the next week and chose another date to film the two scenes we chose to try again on the 4th of November, the wether site showed that there was no rain or fog due for that day. When it came to trying to re-film the weather was just as we wanted it the was no treat of rain or dullness. Because of this issue we did have to change to film schedule but just the dates, no other information had to be changed on this day.

We did face another timing issue where we could film on the day we wanted to. Our stage performance scene is set on a stage and we decided to use the school hall to film this. At first my group and I thought we could film on the 2nd of November but we later found out that the hall was already booked by another class. So we changed the date to the 5th of November and doubled checked that it was free for us the have the time we needed. This happened before is came to filming so we were able to change the filming schedule before anything had been done or needed to be done.

We also had to plan another date to re-film the party scene because the first time around didn't look good, the quality was low and it would make the whole video look bad. So because of this we chose friday the 6th of November so that we had the shoe evening to set up the location and make sure the lighting was correct before we started. It also meant that the were no restrictions on when we had to be done or had to leave to location. We were able to film a better looking scene which matched our original ideas and would fit in to the video more effectively.

One last problem which we were faced with was forgetting and outfit, the filming schedule had mistake and we brought with us an outfit for a different scene. We needed the party outfit but instead we brought the stage performance dress, luckily the group and I were able to get hold of the other outfit and weren't set back to much. Once we got the correct outfit the rest of the film ing ran smoothly and we were only 10 to 15 minutes behind the filming schedule.

They were all the changed made to the filming schedule for my music video, nothing major occurred that treated the filming massively, not problems which were easily solved  and nothing dramatic had to be re done.It helped me and my group to keep in check and keep on time with out filming. We were able to get everything done in time for editing and we found it very useful when we needed to know what was in each shot. There weren't many confusions or mistake in the filming except the three issue explained above.
I have learnt that the role of a filming schedule is important to keep the productions running smoothly. It kept my group and I on time for everything and made sure we had what we needed for what shoots. Even when we were faced with the issues explained above the filming schedule meant that it didn't effect the rest of the scenes and they were easily overcome and rescheduled. Overall it helped a lot throughout filming and kept all cast and crew organised.
